Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree and 7.5 credits in programming in Python or the course Distant Reading.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student should at least be able to:
- define the concept of digital humanities (as an academic field) and critically discuss examples of research in this field;
- explain the research issues and methods characterizing subfields in digital philology (as the intersection between philological research and digital humanities), such as stylometrics, synchronic linguistics, information extraction in humanities research, analysis of fiction, and digital palaeography;
- analyse and critically review scientific publications in the field of digital philology;
- define and carry out studies in various subfields of digital philology.
Content
The course provides an overview of the research field of digital humanities, with a particular focus on digital philology, defined as digital methods for philological research.
Instruction
The teaching consists of lectures and laboratory sessions under supervision.
Assessment
Reports on assignments. The teacher can, as part of the examination require compulsory attendance and active participation in teaching modules.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
