Entry requirements

120 credits including 45 credits in computer science, data science, information systems or applied computational science. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • understand principles and theories of human-robot interaction
  • carry out user requirement analysis and design of human-robot interaction in concrete scenarios
  • design and develop social skills for human-robot interaction using a physical robotic platform
  • use quantitative and qualitative approaches for evaluation and analysis of human-robot interaction dataevaluate the impact that social robots may have on ethical values like privacy and autonomy that are important for users and society at large
  • design and conduct a human-robot interaction research project involving human users.

Content

Theories and methods of human-robot interaction; Paradigms of human-robot interaction; Interaction techniques; Programming robot behaviours for human-robot interaction; Human robot interaction design; User requirements analysis and prototyping for social robots; Evaluation of human-robot interaction; Applications of human-robot interaction; Robots and ethics.

Lectures and assignments.

Assessment

Assignments (2 credits); oral and written presentation of a project (8 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other directives

This course cannot be included in the same degree as 1MD043 Human-Robot Interaction or 1MD300 Social Robotics and Human-Robot Interaction.
