Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- describe the nature of environmental problems and changes during the last century.
- describe the causes and effects of the most significant environmental problems (global, regional and local), and any steps that have been taken against these.
- carry out a simplified life cycle analysis (LCA)
- demonstrate overall knowledge of the governmental authorities, laws and regulations concerning products and manufacturing processes that can affect health and the environment.
- give an account of the basic aims, advantages and disadvantages of environmental certifications.
- give an account of policy formulation, the inventory and identification of significant environmental issues, as well as environmental auditing on the basis of an environmental management system.
Content
Global, regional and local environmental problems. Swedish environmental targets. Life cycle analysis. Environmental law and supervising authorities. Environmental management systems.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars, project in the form of a simplified life cycle analysis.
Assessment
Written/oral examinations and assignments during the course (2 credits) as well as successful completion of a project (3 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
