In this project we will develop new mathematical models and computational methods for capillary dominated flow of two immiscible, incompressible fluids in the prescence of moving contact lines. The specific aim is to develop a accurate and efficient techniques for contact line dynamics. Our approach combins a macro discription and a micro problem based on a the phase field model in the vicinity of the contact line. Important applications are found in for example biomedical industry where lab-on-a-chip processes form the basic component in micro system design, and in modeling of subsurface flows such as flow in groundwater basins, oil reservoirs and at CO2 sequestration sites. In the first case our methods will be useful for direct numerical simulation, while in the second case our methods can be used instead of experiments to determine parameters in the avaraged models that must be used on the largest scale.
