We have two times previously been organizing a biannual conference in Uppsala with support from Vetenskapsrådet. The first conference, ?Neurodegenerative disorders: immunotherapy and biomarkers? was held in 2009 and the second in 2011. In 2009, we hosted 130 participants and in 2011, 150 scientists from attended the conference. We now intend to arrange a third meeting, planned to May 23-24, 2013. We will organize a two day symposia. The invited speakers represent both international and national expertise in this exciting developing field of therapy oriented research. The previous conferences have received a great deal of international attention. It was reported on Alzforum, a world-wide web-based homepage for research on dementia, both in 2009 (http://www.alzforum.org/new/detail.asp?id=2192) and 2011 (http://www.alzforum.org/new/detail.asp?id=2821). The last report described that the participants, among other things, thought that ?our meeting targets the right niche at the right time?.Neurodegenerative disorders represent significant unmet medical needs and major costs to the health care system. In the search for more efficient treatments, immunotherapy targeting either inflammatory molecules or the abnormal proteins that aggregate in these disorders is currently the overall most promising strategy. The field is most advanced in Alzheimer?s disease, but also Parkinson?s diseasse, ALS and other neurodegenerative disorders will be covered.
