The Sweden ESD ConferenceThis conference, with international and national participants from research and education at universities, authorities, UN organizations, Swedish Ministry of Education and ESD practitioners, will be held August 21-24 2016, at Uppsala University’s Campus Gotland, Visby. The conference is organized by the Swedish International Center of Education for Sustainable Development (SWEDESD), which integrates research, capacity building and policy development to scale ESD within the UNESCO Global Action Programme on Education of Sustainable Development (GAP on ESD) and the UNs Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2030. In April 2015, SWEDESD was recognized by UNESCO Paris as a main player for ESD globally. SWEDESDs research based activities led to the appointment of SWEDESD as co-chair, together with South Korea, of the GAP priority action area 3, focusing teachers and teacher education. From January 2016, SWEDESD also has the mandate of the Swedish Government to be the National Focal Point for GAP on ESD. In organizing this conference, including hosting the 9th Biennial Meeting of the International Network of Teacher Education Institutions (INTEI) and gathering Swedish actors on teacher education, SWEDESD is facilitating research based collaboration between and among international and national colleagues.
