Uppsala Meeting on the Neuroscience of Anxiety Disorders 2016 is a newly founded conference that will be organized in Uppsala September 8-9 2016. Anxiety disorders are common and costly psychiatric conditions characterized by long-lasting fears and worries that interfere substantially with daily activities. In Europe alone, the annual cost of anxiety disorders is estimated at over 70 Billion Euro. Although anxiety disorders can be conceptualized as brain disorders, much remains unknown regarding the etiology, maintaining factors and mechanisms underlying successful treatment. The Department of Psychology in Uppsala, especially Professor Mats Fredrikson, has a leading role in neuroscientific research on anxiety disorders in Sweden and internationally. However, there is a lack of meetings focusing on these impairing conditions. This conference will gather international and Swedish scientists and clinicians involved in research and treatment of debilitating anxiety conditions, coming together to share their knowledge of basic science as well as common and novel treatment strategies. We aim at attracting 100 participants, including international guests. This conference will help develop anxiety research in Sweden, and abroad, and hopefully further collaborations between Swedish and international researchers.
