The overarching purpose of the present project is to increase and refine our knowledge about teaching and teaching research. A subordinated purpose is to develop a unique review format, SMART. Examples of our research questions are:What topics and meta-theoretical, theoretical and methodological approaches dominate research about teaching?What are the most important resultat?How has the knowledge of teaching developed over time and in different contextsThe project is an example of basic research addressing an issue, teaching, of fundamental importance in educational research. If the project is funded, it will provide an opportunity for the research group, and consequently for Swedish educational research, to take a leading position internationally in research about teaching.Method:SMART involves the following steps:Discern research arenasIdentify the research withconsidered most important byresearcherson each arenaList background material about the material (e.g. authors)Categorize the material by genreMap and analyze central aspects of publications: a) topic b) meta-theoretical approach c) theory/basic concepts d) methods e) results.Deeper analysis of the aspects mentioned in 5) above.Overriding characterization and critical evaluation of the research arenaSMART will be applied in two projects where a) reviews and b) original research papers in teaching research are mapped and analyzed. The research group consists of three professors and two post-docs.
