Bränslen från solen: 3D organiska halvledande Polymernano Punkter som Effektiva fotokatalysatorer för väteutveckling och CO2 Reduction

My recent ground-breaking finding (Angew Chem Int Ed., 2016, 55, 12306, Hot Paper) shows that three dimensional organic polymer nano-dots (Pdots) prepared from pristine polymers are a family of efficient metal-free photocatalysts for light-driven hydrogen evolution from water. But there are still many scientific questions left to answer: how to further improve the system? Is that possible to use Pdots for CO2 reduction? where is the reactive site in Pdots? How to immobilize Pdots on electrode for device? Bearing these in mind, in this project, I will further study the effect of the polymer structures on formation of Pdots and on subsequent photocatalysis by rational design of the pristine polymers and also attempt to make the Pdots’ tentacle touch the CO2 reduction reaction. With development of Pdots in homogenous system for photocatalysis, they are also proposed to immobilize photoelectrode by layer-layer assembly method for solar fuel device. Pdots photocatalysts in both homogenous and electrode systems will be fully studied by various spectroscopies such as transient absorption spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and impedance spectroscopy in order to dig our the reactive sites and to investigate the charge transfer processes in Pdots during photocatalysis. In short, in this project, I expect to explore and study a novel, efficient, economical and environmental-friendly organic photocatalysis system for fuels production from sunlight.
