The “AI-Based Reg-Tech” project examines how financial institutions’ compliance and risk management functions have responded to the intensification of regulation. More specifically, the project is concerned with the increased use of AI-based systems that automate and augment regulatory compliance work (AI-based RegTech). Although AI-based RegTech offers a number of benefits for regulators and regulated firms, it raises a number of challenges for the regulatory process. This project addresses three of these key challenges. Firstly, how and why have financial institutions adopted and managed AI-based RegTech? Secondly, how can regulation ensure trustworthy AI-based RegTech and develop trust in this technology? Finally, what are the impacts of the introduction of new technology and actors within the regulatory process, and how should regulators respond to this increasingly complex regulatory space? This is a WASP-HS project.
