Large-scale imaging studies of associations and causality of body composition in relation to type 2 diabetes

Would you like to describe the project in short with a few sentences
“We will study the relevance of body composition in relation to type 2 diabetes. This will be done using advanced image analysis techniques and large-scale cohort studies that include imaging, clinical and genetic information.”

Would you like to tell us a little about the cross-disciplinary aspects of the project?
“The study spans the fields of diabetes, epidemiology, radiology, image analysis, AI/deep learning, genetic analysis, and studies of causality.”

How was the project and collaboration born?
“The project and collaboration was born from the idea of applying the advanced image analysis concepts that we have developed, that allow integrated analysis of imaging and non-imaging information, to extremely large-scale studies including detailed phenotype and genotype information.”

How can UDC be of help in your research?
“By stimulating knowledge sharing, collaborations and by co-funding the project.”

What can UDC do to make the PhD students feel like they belong to the centre?
“By having an active program where students, and sometimes also their supervisors, are stimulated to meet, interact and share knowledge.”

Which UDC activities will be meaningful for this project?
“Especially the seminar series, the introductory and well as some of the specialised research courses.”
