Maryam disputation

Pulmonary drug delivery – administration of drugs to the lungs – is central to treat or prevent, among other things, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Here we also find potential to deliver biopharmaceuticals such as insulin and vaccines, but there is still a pronounced need for fundamental understanding of factors governing the release, dissolution and absorption of drugs in the lung.

With the establishment of national competence center SweDeliver, research in pulmonary drug delivery has advanced at Uppsala University's Faculty of Pharmacy. In a PhD project, Maryam Tofiq has worked with the development of a formulation technology platform for rational design of the manufacturing properties of dry granulated particles.

Tuesday 7 May 2024, Maryam will defend her thesis at Uppsala Biomedical Centre. Opponent is Peter Kleinebudde, Professor at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, Germany.

RESEARCHER BIO

Maryam Tofiq received her Master of Science degree in Pharmacy at Uppsala University with a degree project in Pharmacokinetics. She started her doctoral studies at Uppsala University in September 2018 when she was recruited to Professor Göran Alderborn’s research group in Pharmaceutical Technology.
