SweDeliver inviting students to do degree projects at industrial partners

Starting in the spring of 2022, SweDeliver will offer students the opportunity to do degree projects at one of the center's industrial partners. "This is a good way to further strengthen the ties between academia and industry," states Jonas Fagerberg, Head of Pharma R&D at Disruptive Pharma.

In the spring of 2022, SweDeliver will introduce the possibility for students to do degree projects, consisting of 30 or 45 credits, at one of the national competence center's 16 industrial partners. This is an initiative that will give the next generation of pharmaceutical experts the opportunity to experience research at the forefront of drug delivery in state-of-the-art environments.

“With this launch, we want to strengthen student involvement in SweDeliver's important fields of research, while providing them networks within the leading pharmaceutical companies that are engaged in our competence center,” says Christel Bergström, Center Director and Professor at Uppsala University's Faculty of Pharmacy.

The initiative is well received among both students and industry, and one of the companies that hopes to welcome a degree worker in the autumn semester of 2022 is Uppsala-based Disruptive Pharma.

“We identify great values in this opportunity; for the student, that will participate in a development project with a focus on an active substance loaded in Pharma-Mesoporous Magnesium Carbonate (Pharma-MMC), but also for us at Disruptive Pharma, who will get an extra resource in conducting methods that are somewhat beside our main focus,” says Jonas Fagerberg, Head of Pharma R&D at Disruptive Pharma.

Disruptive Pharma is one of the original partners that formed the Swedish Drug Delivery Forum, the predecessor of SweDeliver, and the company continues to carry a central position within SweDeliver's networking operations that is increasingly connecting academia and industry.

“The center shows how many exciting things that materialise when so many competencies meet on the same platform. That we will now also cooperate on degree projects is likely an effective way to further strengthen the ties between academia and industry. In a wider perspective, I see a great need for expertise in drug formulation, and at Disruptive Pharma, we would very much like to contribute a small piece of the puzzle in the training of the next generation of experts,” states Jonas Fagerberg.
