About us

The Office for History of Science is a research unit within the Department of History of Science and Ideas. It promotes advanced research and intellectual exchange in the history of science. Members of the unit aim at understanding scientific work, its practices as well as its ideals, as a historical phenomenon. With the establishment of the Hans Rausing Chair in History of Science – whose holder acts as director of the unit - a variety of measures are installed in order to foster a vibrant research environment: the Office hosts regularly visiting professors, postdoctoral as well Ph.D. candidates who enforce the ongoing research as well as that they contribute to the department’s teaching. Each year the Office invites an outstanding scholar in the field to give the Hans Rausing Lecture. Symposia are convened at irregular intervals that address cutting-edge research themes. A research seminar is held regularly, partly in conjunction with the Department. For coming and previous seminars, please visit the page Calendar.
