We want to inspire children and young people's interest in maths and have several activities for different ages.
Programmes for all ages
SciFest
SciFest is an annual three-day science festival with more than 8000 visitors organised by Uppsala University and SLU. Every year, several of our researchers and students participate with different types of workshops that will make you think hard. Read about the upcoming SciFest at scifest.se
Ask a scientist
Do you have a special maths question that cannot be answered by searching and that is not a school assignment? Ask our researchers via the Faculty of Science and Technology's question box (information in Swedish but questions can of course also be asked in English).
Primary and secondary education
Maths Club
The Maths Club is a collaboration between Uppsala Municipality and the Department of Mathematics and is for children who want more and more difficult mathematics than that available in school. The mathematics covered at the meetings is usually outside the school programme and the focus is on developing problem-solving and reasoning skills.

Traineeships (Prao)
Occasionally we have the opportunity to accept trainees. Send a personal letter to our study counsellors (studievagledare@math.uu.se) telling us about your interest in mathematics and when your traineeship will take place.
Upper secondary school
Uppsala Maths Circle
The Uppsala Maths Circle is for students interested in mathematics (in Swedish). Every year, the Department of Mathematics offers a specialised course on one or more interesting topics where we mix theoretical lectures with problem solving sessions.
The Maths Seminar
The Mathematics Seminar (in Swedish) gives you the opportunity to take part in ongoing research, popular science lectures and mathematics applications. The seminar series is popular science and is aimed at students in all years of mathematics and other mathematics enthusiasts
Co-supervision of upper secondary school projects
Traineeships (Prao)
Occasionally we have the opportunity to accept trainees. Send a personal letter to our study counsellors (studievagledare@math.uu.se) telling us about your interest in mathematics and when your traineeship will take place.
Upper secondary school visits
We can come to a high school in the Uppsala area and hold an inspiring maths lesson about what you can learn if you choose to study mathematics at university. A researcher/teacher will come together with a student and they will tell you at the same time about what opportunities there are to study further at university and what you can work with as a mathematician. If you are interested - contact our study counsellors at studievagledare@math.uu.se.
Advanced course: Excursion in the world of maths
Our university lecturer Gunnar Berg, known for his pedagogical skills and interest in spreading his broad interest in mathematics, gives a course ‘Wandering in the world of mathematics’ for upper secondary school students interested in mathematics. The course can be taken as an individual choice in several schools. Here you can see a syllabus of the course ‘Excursion in the World of Mathematics’ from previous years when the course was given as a university course with university credits. If you are interested in the course, you are welcome to contact Gunnar Berg.
Open house
Every spring, the Faculty of Science and Technology organises an open house at the Ångström Laboratory. You can explore the campus where our maths students and other science and technology students study. For example, you can choose to listen to panel discussions about studies, join a guided tour, or ask our students about their programmes. Student counsellors are also on hand for extra guidance.
UppTown Tech for girls
Are you a girl or non-binary student in your final year of a science or technology upper secondary programme and curious about what it's like to study to become a mathematician or engineer? Then you should come to UppTown Tech, which is organised every autumn by the Faculty of Science and Technology. The Department of Mathematics is involved in organising one of the activities there and of course also has students on site that you can ask.
Research Day
Research Day for upper secondary schools is organised annually by the Faculty of Science and Technology. It gives upper secondary school students the opportunity to take part in current research and learn more about research and how science works in practice. This takes the form of popular science lectures by researchers. There is always a lecture in maths.
Study visit
We accept study visits organised by the Faculty of Science and Technology, where we give popular science lectures aimed primarily at students in their final year of upper secondary school.
Student for a day
Do you want to know what it's like to be a student with us? Maybe you want to see what a campus looks like from the inside and have plenty of time to talk to a student? Now you can ‘shadow’ a student and join a lecture, lesson or whatever is on the schedule that day. Shadow a student is organised by the Faculty of Science and Technology.
Sonja Kovalevsky Days
The National Committee for Mathematics at the Kungl. Vetenskapsakademien organises the Sonja Kovalevsky Days in collaboration with the Swedish Mathematical Society, in which we participate. Each upper secondary school is invited to send two students chosen from among those who show a lively interest in the subject of mathematics.
