Course in Health-System Pharmacy opening new career paths for Prescriptionists
Do you want to interact closely with other healthcare professions with a focus on drugs and the patient at the centre? Then Uppsala University's "super interesting" and "very educational" course Health-System Pharmacy is your choice. "Our participants are entering a growing labor market with very positive prognosis," states Matts Balgård, Course leader at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Health-System pharmacists have in a short time established themselves as natural parts of the Swedish healthcare system. In our nation's clinics, hundreds of experts are already working to optimise the drug chain from storage to patient supply. In order to meet the increasing need for skilled employees, Uppsala University launched the new Health-System Pharmacy in autumn 2022.
“Our ambition is to provide knowledge that will prepare you for a career as a unit pharmacist, and we can now see how former participants are being recruited to the positions we have prepared them for. The prognosis is very positive with a growing job market, and today we offer the course to both pharmacy students and professionals,” says Matts Balgård, Course leader at the Department of Pharmacy.
The course mixes lectures with workshops. The teachers represent both the Faculty of Pharmacy and several of Sweden's Regions. Participants also have the opportunity to do a three day Practical tuition accompanied by a professional health-system pharmacist.
“This summer we are also completing our new clinical training facilities at the Uppsala University Biomedical Center with, among many things, three practice pharmacies and a drug storage room. These are environments that will add even greater opportunities for our students to prepare their step into the clinic and professional life.”
The future is bright for a course that is already receiving a 5.4 rating on a six-point scale and where evaluations are filled with praise such as Super interesting, Very educational, Challenging without being overwhelming and, as one student notes: Thank you so much. This autumn, a new group of students will enroll on this much-coveted course, which will undoubtedly open up exciting career paths for our future pharmaceutical experts.
