Project description

The goal of this project is to produce a historical overview of the history of church music in Sweden, from the country's Christianity to the present. The work will present a cohesive synthesis of existing and new knowledge about music and music practice with connections to churches and communities. The goal is a work in two bands, with the working title Church Music in Sweden: from the Middle Ages to the present. The work is believed to be the standard work on the history of church music in Sweden for the foreseeable future. It will include methodical re-readings of existing research combined with new basic research. In the Nordic book market, this work fills an obvious void. In addition to researchers and students in the humanities and theology, the readership is judged to consist of a broad public interested in music, history and culture.
