Active Exploration

Infants and young children are active explorers of their environment. This self-motivated playful interaction with the world provides nourishment for the growing mind. Action and exploration help children formulate hypothesis about the world, that can be tested during interaction with the physical and social environment. Through active exploration and embodied processes infants and children develop social competences and executive functions. These processes also bootstrap mathematical and geometrical reasoning.

We explore these processes in infant and child studies using eye tracking, motion capture and standardized test batteries.
