A good quality, local health care for children and adolescents

As part of the inquiry for a coordinated development for good quality, local health care, led by Anna Nergårdh since 2017, pediatrician Peter Almgren was assigned the position of special investigator for “A coordinated good quality, local health care for children and adolescents” in the end of 2019. The aim of the investigation was to achieve a more coordinated and equal care for children and adolescents, on a national level. Almgren was appointed to study how the local health care can offer support to children and adolescents with mental illness, and to suggest how an overall follow-up can be designed.

On Tuesday, May 4, 2021, the Government's Special Investigator Peter Almgren submitted his report “A coordinated good quality, local health care for children and adolescents to Lena Hallengren, Minister of Health and Social Affairs. The main proposal of the inquiry to the Swedish government is a bill with a focus on health promotion work, which aims to create a more coordinated care for children and adolescents, from pregnancy to adulthood.

Appendix 4 in the interim report has been produced by several researchers within the CHAP research group, where we highlighted the importance of organising for equal health, efficiency and investments for the future. Anna Sarkadi, Camilla Nystrand, Kine Johansen, Jamile Marchi, Nina Johansson and Josefin Dahlström contributed to Appendix 4.
