Teknikåttan

Teknikåttan is two independent competitions in technology, maths and science that are open to all eighth graders in Sweden. The competitions are held during the spring term and consist of a quiz and a class assignment respectively. They aim to stimulate students' imagination, creativity and inventiveness and provide support and inspiration to teachers of these subjects. Uppsala University organises the competition in collaboration with nine other Swedish universities.

The purpose of Teknikåttan

With Teknikåttan we want to show that there are alternative routes to knowledge. By relating to everyday objects and providing new perspectives on technology and scientific phenomena, students are encouraged to give clever answers to tricky problems. This strengthens students' self-confidence and trust in their own common sense. The questions should engage all students in the class, regardless of gender or ethnic and social background, so that more students can consider an education in the technical and scientific fields. We also want to support and inspire teachers in these fields.
