Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) Sweden
The Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) Sweden is a national research infrastructure with a network of field stations measuring greenhouse gas fluxes over sea and land. These stations consist of three high masts for atmospheric measurements; two offshore measurement stations (one mast and one station on board a commercial vessel), where carbon dioxide concentrations in the water and gas exchange with the ocean are studied; and six ecosystem stations distributed among forests, wetlands and farmland. At the land-based ICOS stations, additional measurements provide information about the interactions among the atmosphere, soil, vegetation and, in some cases, runoff water.
Lund University hosts ICOS Sweden and the other participating universities are Uppsala University and the University of Gothenburg. ICOS Sweden is the Swedish node in the international research infrastructure Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS-ERIC).
The Council for Research Infrastructures (RFI) funds this research infrastructure, which the Swedish Research Council considers to be in the national interest.
