5. Economics and Business Models

The favourable economics of PV have underpinned its explosion internationally. The conditions are tougher in Sweden but the situation is changing rapidly. Going forward, the evolving policies, the new electricity markets, the advancements in energy storage, and the emergence of new types of PV systems such as agrivoltaics, create space for new economic models and business plans, but may be hampered by a regulatory framework that needs to be reconsidered. Clear calculations of economic return from increasingly complex systems are needed, that will underpin business development and the sustainable expansion of PV in Sweden.
