Admission to later part of a Master's Programme

You can apply to a later part of a Master's Programme if there is place and you have merits corresponding to earlier semesters of the new programme.

During the application, your merits will be assessed to see what year you qualify for. You can at the earliest be admitted to the second semester of a programme. The essential qualifications in order to be admitted to a later part of a programme are:

  • There must be an available place in the year you qualify for.
  • You must meet the entry requirements for the programme.
  • You must transfer credit from previous studies. How many credits needed for the specific programme you are looking to be admitted to is noted in the programme syllabus under Other directives.
  • You must be residing in Sweden in order to be admitted.

Application period

  • For studies starting in the fall semester, the application period is 15 March - 15 April. Documentation for the application can be supplemented up to and including June 1 (before the fall semester).
  • For the start of the spring semester, the application period is 15 September - 15 October. Supporting documents for the application can be supplemented up to and including December 1 (for the spring semester).

There is an application form for the later part of a programme, which you can get from the study counsellor for the program together with a preliminary assessment of your background and which semester you should apply for. The form is then sent to the programme director who either approves or rejects the application. The application is then forwarded to the head of education at the faculty level who makes the formal decision.

The assessment is individual and depends on what you have studied before and, above all, how similar or different your previous education is to the content of the program, the semesters before the one you are applying for.

The application must include:

  • Certificates of completion of courses
  • Course descriptions for courses studied at other universities.
  • Documents proving basic and special eligibility if you have not previously studied at Uppsala University.
  • A proposed study plan for the coming semester.
