Selected topics

What are the Selected Topics courses at the bottom of my programme outline?

The selected topics courses are there to provide a way for students to get credit for courses outside the master curriculum. Most commonly they are of one of the following two options.

  • Firstly, they are a way for master students to get credit for taking PhD courses. Note that PhD courses are typically valued at 7.5 credits, so that you either have to only take part of the course for the 5 credit Selected Topics course, or do more for the 10 credits Selected Topics course. Please have a look at the list of upcoming PhD courses (FIX THE LINK)
  • Secondly, they are a way to take reading courses on a particular topic together with a lecturer.

Why do not all teachers agree to take a student for such a reading course?

We only offer these courses subject to availability of resources

What are the prerequisites?

Since the topics of the reading courses should be more advanced than the standard master curriculum, the Selected topics courses require you to have passed at least 30 credits of mathematics on the master level.

How do I register for these courses?

If you want to take a selected topics course, contact the appropriate lecturer with a request. If they are able to offer you the course and after you have agreed on the structure, you formally apply for the course using the form below.
