Forskargruppen utvecklar nya immunterapier baserade på CAR T-celler, onkolytiska virus och virala vektorer som kan aktivera immunsystemet och förändra tumörers mikromiljö för att på så vis förbättra förutsättningarna för immunterapi.

Immunterapi har under det senaste decenniet visat sig vara ytterst effektivt och åtnjuter idag en stark position inom etablerad cancerbehandling. Trots de stora framsteg som tagits har vi antagligen precis bara påbörjat arbetet med att förstå hur tumörer påverkar immunsystemet.
Våra forskningsprojekt syftar till att förstå de mekanismer som gör att cancerceller undkommer immunsystemet och använda denna kunskap för att utveckla nya och bättre immunterapier. Vi utvecklar innovativa CAR-T celler, onkolytiska virus och virusvektorer och modifierar dem att föra med sig faktorer som kan motverka immunhämmande mekanismer i tumörmikromiljön och inducera ett brett men specifikt immunsvar mot tumörceller.
Vår forskning är till största delen preklinisk, men onkolytiska virus och CAR-T celler som utvecklats i forskningsgruppen utvärderas nu i kliniska prövningar vid Akademiska sjukhuset. Fler utvecklade produkter förväntas kunna nå kliniken inom de närmaste åren.
