Experiments - What can be studied by EPR?

EPR spectroscopy is specific, selective and sensitive for studying systems having unpaired electron(s). These include organic radicals (e.g. radical cation/anion, triplet states), transition metals (with varies valence states), point defects, etc.

We help in designing and performing EPR experiments as well as data analyzing according to your needs.

Our labs are equipped with the following spectrometers from Bruker BioSpin GmbH:

  • X- and Q-band ELEXSYS E580 pulsed EPR spectrometer with ENDOR and ELDOR units
  • Two X-band ELEXSYS 500 EPR spectrometers
  • X-band EMX Micro EPR spectrometer

Wide range of resonators and accessories for specific experiment are available for steady state EPR or time-resolved for kinetic studies.

Liquid helium and liquid nitrogen flow cooling systems allow measuring temperature being controlled in the range of 4.5 – 300 K.

Typical experiments include continuous wave (CW) or pulsed (ESEEM, HYSCORE, relaxations, etc.) EPR.

In addition our labs are equipped with a number of pulsed and continues light sources, including YAG Lasers with selective excitation wavelengths for studying light induced reactions in situ and/or ex situ.

If you are a Ph.D. student or a postdoc and wish to take a deeper tour in EPR, it is a good idea to take an EPR course. Upon approval, Ph.D. students will receive 3 university credits for fundamental CW (continues wave) EPR and addtional 2 credits for advanced pulsed EPR.

This course is also open for everyone who is curious about the EPR.
