Animal Ecology

We study the ecological causes and evolutionary consequences of variation among and within species in terms of behaviour, morphology and life-history.

Animal ecology can be broadly defined as the relationships and interactions between animals and their environment. Here, the environment is collectively formed by conspecifics, other species as well as the physical environment. At our program, we work with a wide variety of different animal species and we do so at time scales ranging from single generations to millions of years.

The Animal Ecology program forms a large and highly international academic research and training environment where we strive to nurture discussions and interactions. In fact, more than half of our teachers, researchers and PhD students hold degrees from outside Sweden and English is our operating language. We interact closely with other programs at the Department of Ecology and Genetics, but we also have a very wide and well established network of research collaborations with colleagues from a range of countries within and outside of Europe as well as with various institutions, agencies and NGOs.
