Hans Hagberg awarded Region Uppsala’s research prize 2023

He is awarded for his research in advanced T cell therapy where he has contributed to the most recent medical development.

Hans Hagberg was one of the pioneers in Europe in giving advanced CAR T cell therapy to patients. Ten years have now past since the first patient at Uppsala University Hospital’s oncology clinic was treated with CAR T cells and without Hans Hagberg’s clinical knowledge, the staff at the clinic would never have dared to try this novelty. The therapy has since become routine for the first or second relapse in high-grade lymphoma, or for the second relapse in mantle cell lymphoma.

Since 2009, Region Uppsala’s council presents a research prize for patient-oriented research. Besides Hans Hagberg, three other researchers are awarded the prize this year. The prize ceremony will be held at the faculty meeting in the University main building on 13 June.
