Recent Sanctions-related UN Resolutions

19 October 2023 – With Resolution 2700 the Security Council decides to renew for one year the travel ban and assets freeze measures imposed with resolution 2653 (2022). The arms embargo imposed with the same resolution and reformulated with resolution 2699 (2023) is extended for one year.

The mandate of the Sanctions Committee and the Panel of Experts stipulated in resolution 2653 (2022) shall apply to sanctions imposed in this resolution and the mandate of the Panel of Experts is extended for a period of 13 months.

2 October 2023 – With Resolution 2699 the Security Council decides to replace the formulation of paragraph 11 concerning arms embargo in resolution 2653 (2022) requiring all member states to take necessary measures to prevent direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer of arms from or through their territories to Haiti. The measures do not apply to transfer of arms to the UN or an UN-authorized mission operating under the command of the Government of Haiti intended to be used for the objectives of peace and security in Haiti

21 October 2022 – With Resolution 2653 the Security Council decides to, for a period of one year, impose targeted measures in the form of arms embargo, travel ban and freezing of assets. The sanctions on travel and assets apply to listed individuals and entities engaged in actions that threaten the peace, security or stability of Haiti. A sanctions committee is established to monitor the implementation of the measures, designate individuals subject to the measures, to establish guidelines for the implementation of the measures, report to the Security Council and to encourage dialogue between the Committee and interested Member States in the region.
