Centre for Multidisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS Uppsala)

Several of the projects in the subject area take place in collaboration with CRS Uppsala. Researchers are also members of the Centre’s scientific advisory board and are scientific leaders for the topics of welfare health and wellbeing (Önver Cetrez), Migration and citizenship (Katarina Westerlund), Democracy, communication and media (Mia Lövheim) and Science, worldviews and education (Malin Löfstedt).

The Nordic Network on Religion, Media and Populism, NOREMPO

The network includes researchers from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden and is financed by NOS-HC for the 2021–2023 period. The network explores how Protestantism is mobilised to express populist discourses and identities, and how these processes are shaped by online media and platforms. Non-religion in a Complex Future, NCF

An international, interdisciplinary and comparative research project that aims to identify the social significance of increased interest in secular and non-religious world-views within the fields of health, law, education, environment and migration. The University of Ottawa is leading the project in collaboration with researchers from Australia, England, Latin America and the Nordic countries. https://nonreligionproject.ca/the-project/.

Nordic Network for Research in Faith & Health

Researchers in psychology of religion are members of this network that aims to increase the quality and exchange between Nordic researchers in terms of ongoing and planned research within the field of faith and health. Complexity and Beyond in Studies of Religiosity in the Nordic Countries (CBSR)

This Nordic network has received support from NOS-HS 2021–2023 and comprises researchers from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Its purpose is to, through workshops and publications, explore the theoretical framework around the complexity of religion in order to understand social change on separate analytical levels in the Nordic countries.

Religion and Citizenship

A European network of researchers who are exploring how religious education contributes to citizenship education in democratic competence. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research has funded the project and the network's work is expected to lead to applications for international projects.

Social Sciences and Humanities Education (ÄDISH)

This research network at Uppsala University aims to strengthen and develop social sciences and humanities education in the subjects included in teacher training. The network has begun a research study into the way teacher students understand their subjects regarding the social sciences.

WOMHER – Women’s mental health during the Reproductive Lifespan

Our researchers participate in the transdisciplinary WOMHER centre, with the aim of generating new knowledge, educating researchers and providing a factual basis for future strategic results in working life and society. https://uu.se/forskning/womher/

Cooperation

The Swedish Agency for Support for Faith Communities

A project on gender, influence and leadership in faith communities is conducted as a follow-up study of a previous mapping of experiences, conditions and obstacles to leadership and influence amongst women who have undergone SST leadership training and who belong to faith communities.

Research circles with schools and churches

This collaboration aims to find new sustainable collaboration forms between the university and different groups and lead to organisational development for all parties involved. Research circles have been run with upper-secondary pupils in Uppsala municipality, and have focused on how current religious education research can improve teacher training. Further research circles are planned for religious education teachers in secondary schools and for those working within the diocese of Uppsala.

National religious education meeting place (NRM)

A national network for continuing education in religion, aiming to create meeting places and exchange knowledge between those who work in schools and higher education institutions on topics of religion and religious education based on current challenges and opportunities. Nine higher education institutions are involved in the collaboration, and they meet three times per academic year.

The Research School Religion, Values and Society

This research school for Phd students focuses on contemporary, empirical studies of religion, values and society in collaboration with ten higher education institutions in Norway and Sweden as well as Boston University in the United States. The research school is run by the MF Norwegian School of Theology, Religion and Society and has received funding from the Research Council of Norway for the period from 2016 to 2023. https://rvs.mf.no/

Phd school for practical theology

The Phd school for practical theology together with the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies (CTR) at Lund University. Active doctoral students and researchers in the field from Swedish and Nordic higher education institutions meet once per semester.
