Cultural reserve

The 18th century is close at Linnaeus' Hammarby - a visit to Linnaeus' manor and gardens is a time travel. The surrounding lands also enrich the experience of times past.

The County Administrative Board of Uppland founded in conjunction with the tricentenary of Linnaeus in 2007 the second cultural reserve in the province of Uppland.

Here acres are managed using contemporary methods, there is a kitchen garden with older varieties of for example cabbages and unions, and a hop-garden is recreated at the site of Linnaeus' own hop-garden. The practice of swidden cultivation - burned wood land - is taken up in Uppland again for the first time since the 17th century. Rye as well as turnips has been harvested in the swidden.
