In Horizon Europe, calls for collaborative projects in the area of medicine and pharmacy are mainly found in Cluster 1 – Health. The aims are to support research that will improve and protect the health and well-being of citizens of all ages by generating new knowledge, developing innovative solutions and integrating where relevant a gender perspective to prevent, diagnose, monitor, treat and cure diseases.

Research in medicine and pharmacy can also be funded in one of the EU Missions in Horizon Europe – Mission Cancer. There are also possibilities to apply from Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) and other partnership programmes.

There are currently six open calls in Mission Cancer.

Additional open calls can be found in the call calendar.

There are relevant calls for researchers in Science and Techology in all clusters within the pillar Global challenges and European industrial competitiveness in the framework program Horizon Europe.

In the EU framework program for research and innovation, Horizon Europe, Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) are a cross-cutting theme and therefor integrated in all parts of the program. In particular, in the pillar "Global challenges and European industrial competitiveness", should these scientific fields be integrated in all clusters. SSH encompasses a wide range of disciplines needed to generate new knowledge, support evidence-based decision-making, develop important competencies and develop interdisciplinary solutions to both societal and technical issues.

While SSH research aspects are particularly present in Cluster 2 ‘Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society’, they are also present in all other clusters and in other parts of Horizon Europe. Horizon Europe requires applicants to submit proposals and build consortia that transcend disciplinary and sectorial boundaries, bringing together researchers and practitioners from Social Sciences and Humanities and from life and physical sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics.

To assist SSH researchers in identifying funding opportunities, the European Commission has established a search engine within the online Funding & Tender Opportunities Portal. Certain topics with substantial SSH aspects have been “flagged” by the European Commission as SSH-relevant, and the search engine offers the option to quickly search for the specific priority ‘Socio-economic science and humanities’. It also allows for keyword and full-text search.
