Study Counselling

If you want an individual study counselling session about your personal study situation you can book a time with our study counsellor via email or telephone.

Common questions in a study guidance counselling session include:

  • How should I plan my studies for the upcoming semester?
  • Can I do a placement/internship as part of my studies?
  • What do I need to think about if I want to build my undergraduate degree?
  • What is required for a Master's degree, or a PhD programme?
  • What careers can a degree in gender studies lead to?
  • I'm behind in my studies. How can I plan my studies to be able to finish the course?
  • What happens if I don't finish the course?

Our study counsellor also has counselling sessions for groups of students. The group sessions can be about questions related to university studies in general, or the study situation at the Centre for Gender Research.

Leave of absence, discontinuation, and resuming your studies after a break

If you want to terminate your studies on a course, you can report the discontinuation of studies via Ladok for students.

Academic leave of absence and discontinuation

If you need to have a break during your studies on a programme, you must apply for an academic leave of absence to have a guaranteed place on the programme after the break. If you make an unannounced interruption of your studies, you have no guaranteed place to resume your studies.

Apply for an academic leave of absence from a programme

If you apply to resume your studies before the date listed in the decision granting you an academic leave of absence, you are guaranteed a place on the programme for the semester specified in the decision. If you have been away without applying for a leave of absence or applied for a study break, you can only resume your studies if there is space available.

Apply to resume your studies on a programme

If you want to terminate your studies on a programme, you need to apply for a study break. Once you have been granted a study break, you can't resume your studies or complete unfinished courses within the programme. It is therefore important that you wait to apply for a study break until all courses are complete.

Transfer of credits

The Higher Education Ordinance sets out rules on the right to transfer credit for previous studies. A transfer of credits should be applied for in good time before the start of the course. You can see the learning outcomes that need to be fulfilled for the course in the course syllabus. If you apply for a transfer of credits for more than one course, an application has to be made for each course.

How to apply for a transfer of credits

  1. If you wish to transfer credits for a part of a course, apply via this form.
  2. If you wish to transfer credits for a whole course, apply via this page.
