The organisation of the National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence Against Women

The National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence Against Women in Uppsala is divided into a university section for research, education and communication, and a clinical section with an out-patient clinic. The centre is headed by a director.

NCK's university section belongs to Uppsala University and is part of the Department of Women's and Children's Health.

The clinical section (Kvinnofridsenheten), is headed by Region Uppsala and is placed directly under the hospital director at Uppsala University Hospital. NCK's clinical section includes the out-patient clinic and the national helpline for women – Kvinnofridslinjen – the support line for transgender people, and the support line for men.

Staff members

NCK employs around 70 people from a variety of professions. The employees at NCK are nurses, social workers, doctors and psychologists, assistant professors, communication officers, administrators, project managers, investigators, researchers and experts. The entire organisation is located in shared premises at Uppsala University Hospital.

This unique composition means that NCK has a real world-based understanding of women's vulnerability to violence. It also provides great opportunities for continuous learning and development. NCK is constantly working to develop new methods that are based on research, tested in clinical real world situations and evaluated scientifically before being disseminated to the rest of the country.

Centre Board of the NCK

The Executive Committee at the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy has appointed a Centre Board of the National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence Against Women. The Centre Board is the decision-making body for the entire organisation. The director of NCK is co-opted to the board and acts as rapporteur.
