GENUS

Gender Studies

Literary gender studies was established in Uppsala in the 1960s and, today, it gathers a number of diverse yet imbricated lines of scholarship within both literature and rhetoric. The research explores contemporary and historical perspectives on sex, gender, and identity. Some of our specialised focus areas are political rhetoric, motherhood studies, literature and medical humanities, life writing, education and reception studies, material cultures, and ecocriticism.

In her artwork "A room of one's own/A thousand libraries", Kajsa Dahlberg has traced 50 years of notes made in library copies of Virginia Woolf’s classic novel.
