Place, Space, and Environment in Literature and Rhetoric
The group takes an interest in environmental theory and in spatial and geographical perspectives on literature and rhetoric more generally. We explore how literary and rhetorical sources relate to local, provincial, and global perspectives, and how questions related to urbanity, wildness, environment, and travel practices are represented in various kinds of media. Current members of the group work on sources from 1770 to recent times, including poetry and fiction as well as school readers, travel writing, film, and political rhetoric. We meet regularly to discuss topics related to our research interests.
