Advanced Drug Delivery

Modern drug formulation focuses more and more on target-directed drugs. In this course you study how barrier properties, transport proteins and enzymes relate to the administration of drugs via different routes. You will also learn about cellular delivery and choice of formulation to cross biological barriers.

Effective drug delivery is one of the main challenges of modern pharmacy. The industry is expressing great need for future competence in the field, and since 2020, Scandinavia's leading industry actors have united in SweDeliver – a competence center in drug delivery where the Faculty of Pharmacy with our strong research environments forms the academic hub. Since the fall semester 2021, we are also offering the course Advanced drug delivery.

In this course, you will increase your understanding of the molecular properties of drugs and how they affect the choice of formulation and route of administration. You will also learn how pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models are used to predict drug bioavailability and efficacy for different routes of administration.

This course can be advantageously combined with Patient-Centred Drug Delivery.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

• The course i given full-time and in English
• Eligibility for the freestanding course requires 150 cr, of which at least 15 cr. in galenic pharmacy and pharmacokinetics
