Introduction to Nanomedicine

Nanotechnology is a scientific field moving fast forward. Not least within pharmacy, where these microscopic particles open up new possibilities in both diagnosis and treatments. In this course you will study the importance and potential of nanomaterials in the biomedical field.

Introduktion till nanomedicin (7,5 hp)

Nanotechnology may be a young science – to date, there is no common international definition of nanomaterials – but researchers are constantly making new progress. Nanomedicine, the field's pharmaceutical niche, is definitely at the absolute forefront. Several drugs based on nanotechnology are already available, even more are in clinical trials. At Uppsala University, nanotechnology has a central place, and in the autumn semester 2021, the Faculty of Pharmacy launched the course Introduction to nanomedicine.

In this course, you increase your understanding of how nanotechnology can be applied in healthcare. You gain knowledge about targeting nanoparticles and how they are absorbed in the body's cells and tissue. We specifically focus on particle behavior in body fluids and colloidal stability as well as application in vaccine delivery, imaging methods and theranostic formulations that combine diagnosis and treatment in disease.

Welcome to take part in presentations straight from the front of this rapidly growing scientific field. Alongside the Faculty of Pharmacy's own researchers in nanomedicine, we engage selected experts in nanotechnology as guest lecturers.
