Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics (7.5 cr)

To achieve the desired effect with drug therapy requires knowledge of a multitude of variables that affect how the individual patient will react to an active substance. In this course, you will learn about the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic sciences and their major importance in modern drug development – from planning clinical trails to dose recommendation.

Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics (7.5 cr)

Precision medicine is a term used more and more frequently, often followed by The Future of Healthcare. The term refers to tailor-made therapies based on the individual patient's unique conditions, a concept that also requires personalized drug treatments. To succeed, the active substance must be provided in the right concentration, at the exact site of action and duration before being excreted when its mission is complete.

Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models generate information that contributes to effective clinical drug trials and increased understanding of the relationship between exposure to and effects of the active substance. In the course Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, we simulate clinical trials and conduct practical exercises in, among other things, data analysis, study design and presentation of results.

Welcome to a course where we, based on Uppsala University's frontline research, give you basic knowledge to participate in clinical drug development with a focus on studies related to pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • The course is given in spring term, period D
  • The course is given full time in Uppsala and in English
