Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics of Biological Drugs (7,5 cr)

The development of protein-based drugs has been growing exponentially for several years, but getting the complex substances to act as intended within the body requires adapted dosage and concentration. This course gives you a detailed picture of the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of various biological drugs and their importance for drug development and therapies.

Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Biological Drugs (7,5 CR)

Protein-based biological drugs are becoming increasingly important in healthcare and today make up more than 20 percent of all new drugs that reach the market. The researchers of the Faculty of Pharmacy work at the absolute frontline of Biopharmaceuticals and in the fall of 2022 turned their expertise into a new Master's Programme that immediately became one of Uppsala University's most popular.

With a long half-life and targeted action, therapeutic antibodies enable new and effective therapies. However, the often extensive size of the molecules makes distribution, absorption and excretion of the active substances within the body difficult. In the course Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Biological Drugs, we highlight – starting from a selection of drugs – how science with the right methods can optimize the process all the way from the laboratory to clinic.

Welcome to experience up-to-date knowledge about how pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics contribute to the accelerating development in one of the most exciting areas of modern pharmacy.
