Introduction to Programming in Python and R for Bioscience (7.5 cr)

Today, many studies generate such enormous quantities of data that conventional methods are no longer sufficient. New technology and AI play an increasingly important role in taking researck to the next level, and currently billions are invested in making Sweden a world leader in computer-driven life sciences. In this course you will learn the basics of two leading programming languages in modern data handling.

Introduction to Programming in Python and R for Bioscience (7.5 cr)

With Open scource, a major part of the analysis industry have taken the step from paid software to cost-free available alternatives. The two currently leading programming languages Python and R are established on a global level, and with their extensive impact in areas such as machine learning and Artificial Intelligence, we can assume that both languages will continue to increase in popularity in the foreseeable future.

Handling and managing the ever-increasing amounts of information that today's life science experiments generate requires basic knowledge in data processing. In the course Introduction to Programming in Python and R for Bioscience, you develop a computer-based way of thinking. We write our own programs, utilize them in practical problem solving and explore tools to summarize, visualize and communicate relevant data.

Welcome to a course that, based on Uppsala University's ongoing research, responds directly to current and future needs of competence in life sciences and drug development.

  • The course is given in Autumn term, Period C
  • The course is given full time in Uppsala and in Swedish (English if needs occur)
