RHS-modell: Risk Factors, Health and Societal Costs (commissioned by the HFS Network).

Cancer Prevention Calculator (commissioned by the Regional Cancer Centre).

Description

Suicide is a serious public health issue. In Sweden, suicide rates are higher than the global estimate of 12.4 per 100 000 population. This study aims to make a comprehensive assessment of the economic impact of suicide in Sweden for the year 2022 by estimating both direct and indirect costs. The results of this assessment can provide valuable insights that are crucial for informed decision-making and resource allocation in public health policy with a focus on suicide prevention.

Description

Patients with cancer treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) may develop acute kidney injury (AKI) as a common complication. The gold standard for diagnosing AKI caused by ICI is kidney biopsy, which is a costly and risky procedure. This study will conduct a cost-effectiveness evaluation of an innovative AI-based tool designed to diagnose AKI in patients undergoing cancer treatment with ICIs, and compare it to kidney biopsy. The results of this study aim to provide insights into how the AI-based tool impacts clinical practice, resource utilisation and patient outcomes.

Description

Social support dog services in schools are very promising. Research shows their positive impact on socio-emotional development, mood regulation, behaviour and academic performance of school-aged children. This study will conduct a cost-effectiveness evaluation of an intervention using social support dogs in the classroom, to assess its impact on children's well-being, behaviour and school attendance, through a comprehensive systematic review and randomised controlled trial. The results of this study aim to provide policy makers with insights for future implementation of such interventions in Sweden.

Researchers involved in the project are Inna Feldman, Ingyin Moe, Filipa Sampaio.

Description

Partnering for Change (P4C) is a school-based service delivery model that promotes inclusive learning environments through interventions at class, group and individual levels. Previous research suggests that implementing P4C will improve engagement in learning, promote wellbeing and prevent mental health problems for all children. This study will assess the cost-effectiveness of P4C interventions compared to the status quo. The results of this study will provide evidence for the value of implementing P4C in Swedish schools.

Description

The efficacy of internet-mediated cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT) for mental health problems has been demonstrated in clinical trials, but little is known about the effects, costs and overall quality and reach of iCBT when implemented in primary care. The aim of the project is to investigate the effects on clinical outcomes, resource utilisation and related costs of iCBT delivered in routine primary care for common mental disorders (CMDs). The results will test whether iCBT can be a solution for managing CMDs in primary care. The results will inform health policies to provide good quality, evidence-based, accessible, equitable and affordable patient-centred primary care for people with mental health problems."

Description

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is an increasingly common condition among children and adolescents in Sweden. The assessment process is associated with long waiting times and high resource utilisation, but no studies have examined the costs and benefits associated with different assessment protocols. This study will model the cost-effectiveness of the two main protocols used in Sweden to assess ADHD in children. The results aim to support clinicians and policy makers in providing the best possible quality and timely identification and care to these children.

Description

The aim of the project is to estimate the potential health and economic impacts of interventions targeting three key areas of the Growing Minds Initiative supported by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. These areas include maternal and infant care, nursing and attachment, and childhood adversity.

The project scope includes the following components:

Development of an evaluation framework to assess the health and economic impact of prevention interventions supported by the initiative;
Study design and health economic evaluation of prevention interventions;
Training and capacity building of the project partners

The results of this project aim to support policy and decision makers in the effective allocation of public resources to interventions that can improve the mental health of children and their families in different population groups, thereby reducing the burden of mental illness and reducing inequalities in access to care.

Researcher involved in the project is Filipa Sampaio.

Description

This strategic project brings together several regional initiatives that develop 3D printing facilities in a hospital environment with the aim of exchanging experiences on regional and national strategic issues and areas of action to facilitate and stimulate the implementation of 3D printing in healthcare. The areas of intervention that the project will focus on are regulatory strategies and approaches, health economic perspectives and collaboration models between 3D printing companies and healthcare.

Our mission is to analyse and synthesise the existing evidence of 3D printing from a health economic perspective and to propose a framework for future health economic evaluations of 3D printing in healthcare.

Description

The randomised controlled trial (RCT), called PsyPal, is coordinated by the University Medical Centre Groningen, the Netherlands, and is the first of its kind to receive EU funding. Uppsala University is one of the centres participating in the study and is responsible for a health economic evaluation of the treatment. The hypothesis is that patients will experience a reduction in depression, worry and anxiety to such an extent that it will outweigh the cost. At the same time, another hypothesis is that carers will feel better and the need for care will be reduced, which is another health economic effect.

Researchers involved in the project are Inna Feldman, Filipa Sampaio.

Description

The project Video-assisted 112 calls for accessible and equitable care aims to contribute to equitable, efficient and patient-safe care through video-assisted 112 calls from caller to emergency centre. The expected outcome of the project is to scale up the use of video-assisted calls in Sweden and create training materials, guidelines for use and technical frameworks that enable non-participating regions to start their implementation journey. Our mission is to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of video-assisted calls to 112.

Researchers involved in the project are Inna Feldman, Filipa Sampaio.
