Research in surgery of the liver and pancreas focus on perioperative care, treatment strategies for post operative complications and operative strategy. The main focus in perioperative care is hemodynamics during liver resection, effects of blood loss and blood transfusion and optimal strategies for biliary drainage. We lead a randomized controlled trial on iron deficiency and recovery after surgery. We study postoperative pancreatic fistula risk and treatment. In operative strategy we focus on simultaneous liver and colon surgery, the role of chemotherapy in colorectal metastases, patient selection for liver surgery, ultrasound guided and 3D imaging for parenchymal sparing liver surgery and lead a national trial on the role of para-aortic lymph nodes in pancreatic cancer.
