Collaborations and cooperation

Collaborations

Ethicists in Uppsala collaborate with researchers from other disciplines and faculties at Uppsala University. There are also several projects with partners at higher education institutions in the Nordics, Europe and elsewhere.

There are two international contexts of particular importance for ethicists in Uppsala. The first is Societas Ethica, the European society for research in theological, philosophical and practical ethics (www.societasethica.info). Professor Elena Namli is the president of Societas Ethica for the 2021–2024 period. The society organises annual conferences for European ethicists. The 2022 conference on Vulnerability and Integrity took place in Zurich. The 2023 conference on Ethics of Reconciliation – European perspectives took place in Sarajevo, and the 2024 conference on Critical Perspectives on Human Rights will be held in Uppsala. The society publishes the journal De Ethica.

The second prioritized international context is the Society for Christian Ethics (www. scethics.org). Uppsala’s ethicists are also active in the Society of Jewish Ethics (www. societyofjewishethics.org).

Cooperation

Competence in the field of ethics is demanded by both society and the government. Ethicists from the Faculty of Theology are active in several collaboration projects and they contribute to public debate.

Doctor of Practical Ethics Johanna Romare coordinates a government project in which researchers from Uppsala University design and conduct training in human rights for the state authorities and for municipalities and regions. Several researchers in ethics are active in this project (www.mr-forum.se).

We also offer training for various actors within civil society, especially on matters related to human rights. Each year, we contribute with several sessions at the Swedish Forum for Human Rights (www.mrdagarna.nu).

Ethicists at the theological faculty in Uppsala are active in media and public debate.
