Policy for image orders, photography and filming in Gustavianum

Gustavianum, Uppsala University Museum has fantastic collections that have been acquired for Uppsala University over the centuries. The museum's ambition is to make photographs and detailed descriptions of the objects in the collections available and free of charge. This is done through the Alvin database, where all existing images are downloadable and free to use for both scientific and commercial purposes.

Gustavianum's collections are, however, very extensive and the Alvin database is therefore not yet complete and is gradually being filled with new items from the museum's collections. For image orders of items not yet available in Alvin, it is necessary to charge a handling fee - see below.

Ordered new photoshoots mean that new photos can be posted in the Alvin database. Each order thus contributes to the digitization and making available of Gustavianum's collections can continue to develop.

Photography and image orders

For orders of images that are not available for download in the Alvin database, the following prices apply to Gustavianum*:

– Administrative fee for each image order: SEK 300 excl. VAT.

– Publication fee for commercial use: SEK 500 excl. VAT/per image (no publication fee is payable for academic publication).

– New photography: SEK 1,000 excl. VAT per image.

[*For the Coincabinet's collections, special rules apply: no fee is charged for new photographs (up to 10 photographs) for simpler photographs taken with existing standard equipment.]

Obligatory copies of publications

For images that are published, a copy of the finished publication must be sent to Gustavianum.

Private photography of objects in the museum's archives and depositary

In certain contexts, external researchers, in consultation with the museum's antiquarians, can be given permission to photograph objects in the museum's archives and magazines themselves. These images can be used free of charge for publications by the researcher. A condition, however, is that the images and image rights are simultaneously transferred to Gustavianum.

Photography and filming in Gustavianum

Photography and filming (without flash, without tripod and without lights) is permitted in the Gustavianum for non-commercial and private use, as long as it does not disturb other visitors or pose a danger to exhibited objects. However, photography or filming in exhibitions with borrowed objects is not permitted.

Photography or filming of visitors, as well as filming and audio recording of guided tours in the Gustavianum, is not permitted.

Note that objects in the museum's collections may be protected by copyright. It is the responsibility of visitors who photograph objects in the Gustavianum to take full responsibility for following the museum's rules as well as rules for copyright or other legal restrictions.

If high-resolution images are needed for publication, they can be ordered for a fee through the Gustavianum (see above) or downloaded free of charge from the museum's database Alvin - if they are available there.

Photography and filming in Gustavianum's store is not permitted.
