Flow Cytometry & Cell Sorting

Flow Cytometry is a fast, versatiles and sensitive technology that allows to analyze up to 20.000 (and even more) particles per second. Particles can be cells or small organisms of 0.3 to 60 micrometers. Single particle suspensions are needed to be ´fed´ into and analyzed by the Flow Cytometer. The particles pass through laser light of different wavelength. Light scatter measurements give insight into properties like (relative) size and internal complexity. Cells can be subjected to different “stainings”, which give insight into the presence or absence of certain proteins (in the cell or the cell´s membrane) and, more importantly the quantity of such proteins (per cell). Other "stainable" parameters are for example DNA, Mitochondria, membranes and more. Cell populations can be identified by such means, and hence results about the status of cells, tissue and organisms can be won.
In order to get hold of such identified populations of cells (or particles), one may utilize a Cell sorter. Sorted and therefore isolated cells (or particles) can now be used for further analysis or experimentations. Biovis Flow Staff can help you analyzation and Cell sorting. We have experience with a wide range of samples and applications. If you have general or specific request or suggestions concerning Flow Cytometry feel free to contact BioVis Staff member Dirk Pacholsky.

In order to use any of our instruments - you need to either book a full service or attend to our Instrument introductions. Application to instrument introduction can be found under Introductions. Price settings are found under Start here menue.

Instruments are bookable over our booking system.

Cyoflex S & LX

Cytoflex S and LX (Beckman Coulter) are easy to use Flow Cytometers with the plate loader capacities and between 14 to 22 fluorescent parameters. The Optical conficgurations for the cytoflex S & LX can be downloaded below under "Information download"

Summary of Cytoflex S (stands @ BMC!)

  • 4 Lasers (405/488/561/633)
  • 14 fluorescent parameters plus FSC/SSC
  • input tubes: 5ml, 2ml
  • plate loader: 96 well plate

Summary of Cytoflex LX

  • 5 Lasers (355/405/488/561/633)
  • 22 fluorescent parameters plus FSC/SSC
  • input tubes: 5ml, 2ml
  • plate loader: 96 well plate, deep well 96 plate

BioVis gratefully acknowledges the financial support from SciLifLab Uppsala and MedFarm FISK, and IGP department which has allowed the purchase of the Cytoflex LX and S.

  • 12 fluorescent parameters plus FSC/SSC
  • input tubes: 5ml, 15ml
  • output tubes: 5ml, 15ml and 2ml
  • output plates: 6,24,48,96,384,
  • sort modi (enrich, purity, single cell)
  • sorting default (sorted drop is charged)
  • 4 way sort (max 4 tubes) with same sort modi on all tubes

BioVis gratefully acknowledges the financial support from MedFarm FISK, IGP department and the former Uppsala branch of Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research, which allowed us to the purchase the BD AriaIII.
