Course syllabus

Each doctoral course must have an established syllabus in the course database according to a template.

The syllabus should include:

  • The level of the course
  • The number of credits awarded
  • Special entry requirements
  • The objectives of the course
  • Teaching methods
  • The pace of study
  • Examination methods

Report revisions of the syllabus to the Research Training Committee, which approves a new version of the syllabus.

New courses to be given in the coming academic year

Submit proposals for new courses and possible requests for funding to the Research Training Committee for approval of the syllabus. Typically, course syllabi are adopted in connection with the decision on the budget for the coming academic year at the Committee’s regular meeting in the spring.

Course providers must post the planned course in the course database with a complete syllabus in English and Swedish.

Courses given regularly

Course providers must update the course database for budget requests no later than April of the year before a course is to be given. The syllabus may be revised when updating the course database.

New courses given at short notice

To establish the syllabus, course providers must notify the intended course to the Director of Studies for doctoral studies. You must add the proposed course to the course database, with a complete syllabus in English and Swedish.

Request funds for courses given at short notice from the Director of Studies for doctoral studies, who decides in consultation with the Chair.

Adding a course to the course database

Contact the Faculty Office of Medicine and Pharmacy to obtain authorisation to add a course to the course database.

Course evaluation and course report

After every doctoral course, offer all participants a course evaluation by using Uppsala University’s central system for course evaluations and selecting “PhD courses via the research training committe (KUF)”. The results of the evaluation should be presented in a course report and fed back to the course participants. The report should also be published in the course database and presented at the beginning of the next course period.

Uppsala University’s central system for course evaluations

The course report’s purpose is to briefly summarise and evaluate the students’ views from the course evaluation and to complement these with the reflections of the course coordinators and teachers. The course report should also describe the ideas for improvement and the actions to be taken. A course report does not have to be extensive (no more than about one page).
