Artbildning och evolution av genom

Forskningen i gruppen fokuserar på några centrala frågeställningar inom evolutionsbiologi som vi angriper med genetiska och genomiska metoder. Vi är bl.a. intresserade av hur nya arter uppkommer och försöker förstå den genetiska bakgrunden till varför närbesläktade arter ofta har barriärer som förhindrar att de kan korsa sig med varandra.
För att studera dessa frågor har vi kartlagt hela arvsmassan hos två fågelarter som ofta används i studier av artbildning: svartvit flugsnappare och halsbands-flugsnappare. Vi bedriver också grundforskning kring vilka faktorer som styr DNA-molekylens evolution, t ex effekten av mutation, "slump" och naturligt urval. Dessa studier bedrivs huvudsakligen med hjälp av bioinformatiska metoder.
