Sven Nelander – Systembiologisk kartläggning av hjärntumörer
Vår grupp studerar cancer i nervsystemet hos vuxna och barn. Målet är att förstå vad som styr tillväxten hos dessa cancerformer och upptäcka nya behandlingar. Vi är också intresserade av grundläggande systembiologiska aspekter av cancercellers plasticitet.
Vi studerar framför allt hjärntumören glioblastom, som drabbar fler än 200 000 människor i världen varje år, samt cancerformerna medulloblastom, diffuse midline glioma och neuroblastom, som ligger bakom en hög andel av dödsfallen i cancer hos barn.
Gruppmedlemmarna har olika expertis, från medicin och bioteknik till matematik och AI. Vår forskningsstrategi baseras på en kombination av patientlika experimentella modeller, avancerad molekylärbiologi och storskalig datoranalys. Vi fokuserar på cancer i nervsystemet men den tvärvetenskapliga metodik som vi utvecklar kan också få stor betydelse inom andra cancerområden.
