Laboratory Automation in Life Sciences
The robots have entered the pharmaceutical labs and they are here to stay. The prospect of employees who never get sick or demand to work from home is attractive to the international industry which is investing huge resources in automating its processes. In this course you design your own experiments and program the machines to carry them out
Numerous investments are currently underway to position Sweden as a world leader in data-driven life sciences. In 2020, Uppsala University's research environment for pharmaceutical bioinformatics inaugurated a robotised laboratory for cell profiling. It has since been accompanied by a robotic course lab at Uppsala Biomedical Center. Here we give the course Laboratory Automation in Life Sciences where you explore the new technology right at the forefront of modern pharmacy.
At this new and innovative course, up up to fifteen students can work in parallel at five stations, each complete with a robotic arm, a liquid handling instrument and an automated microscope developed in collaboration with Stanford University. During five weeks, you combine theoretical knowledge and practical elements with focus on, among many things, liquid handling using pipetting robot, sample handling with robot arm and automated microscopy.
